Why should you visit us?

Welcome to Krāslava District, the place where Latvia begins!

We are all united by the majesty and beauty of nature, the sun, air, land and water that ever regenerate themselves and regenerate others.

A popular belief goes that anyone who has ever been to Krāslava District will surely come back once more. The best people are said to live here…
Krāslava District is often compared to a whirlpool which sucks in deeper and deeper, as one surrenders to its unfathomable power and admiration. A feeling that something still remains unknown and has passed by unnoticed persists. Once again you are quite willing to take a walk in the park of the castle of Count Plāters, stroll along Adamova trail with a view to beautiful sceneries, walk through mysterious ravines, look into the sandstone cave in the park of Dagda Manor, and see natural sites and rarities. It is impossible to forget the sense of mystery that surrounds you as you take an excursion through Plāteri Castle at night, still reminiscent of its former owners. One never gets tired of watching and enjoying the majestic beauty of the Daugava River as it meanders in gentle and mighty turns through Krāslava, similar to the hair curls of a beautiful mermaid.
There are 273 lakes in Krāslava District, so different by their depth and area, but every one of them endowed with their individual beauty and charm, inviting holidaymakers, fishermen and friends of nature to come to their shores. These are places where you can enjoy solitude, sense and enjoy the attraction of the nature or relax by fishing or taking a swim.
Or perhaps you want to meet in person real ceramicists and painters from Latgale? If so, you have a very good chance to do so and witness the creation of ceramics or even participate in the process directly.
Wishing to see sacral places? In that case Krāslava District is one of the richest districts in terms of churches in Latvia where churches of various styles still proudly tower their bell towers and crosses.
We kindly welcome active tourists for whom there are several options of recreation: walking along cognitive and natural trails, going by boats and rafts. You will be delighted to see cross-country motorcycle races or participate in the annual competition of fishermen. Rides in the natural park ‘Daugava Meanders’, along cultural and historical routes and sights opening to the other side of the Latvian-Byelorussian border from horseback are also available.
We wish you a nice trip in the land of the blue lakes!
